Wildlife Training at Shamwari Game Reserve

Get your dose of being a Ranger Field Guide in Africa by taking part in wildlife training courses. Here you can pick from various courses: from practical introductions to fully accredited Field Guide Training courses. They are a great experience for someone with a passion for wildlife or who wants to pursue a career in field guiding. While there are various wildlife training courses available in South Africa, these are some of the best.
Shamwari Game Reserve
The Shamwari Game Reserve (one of the most gorgeous places on Earth) is located on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Here, you can learn how to guide professionally in potentially dangerous game areas. You will receive training in both practical and theory applications, and you’ll learn the vital skills needed to be a successful game ranger. All teaching is delivered by professionals in the individual fields – people who have not only been working with animals for many years, but also those with a vast knowledge to share.
In the practical section of your wildlife training course you will attend practical excursions to the reserve and other areas on a daily basis. These excursions are conducted in open game-viewing vehicles and sometimes on foot.
The daily theory lectures are conducted in classrooms and outdoor venues. You will get lessons in animal behaviour, conservation management and many other topics of interest.
All you need to participate in these courses is an interest and passion for wildlife. No prior knowledge is required, although of course it is beneficial. Course participants must be over the age of 18 and need to have a driving license for a manual vehicle. Once you complete the course you will be qualified to conduct game drives and interpret your surroundings in order to make the most of the situation and ensure the safety of all in your charge.
Your accommodation at Shamwari will be in purpose built tents that you will share with two other students. The tents have an en-suite shower, toilet and basin and you will also have a cupboard, desk and chair to study. There is a communal building not far from your tent with facilities like swimming pool, canteen, lecture rooms and an entertainment area with Internet access. There will be three meals provided daily and you will be able to do your laundry once a week.
Whatever your reason for wanting to undertake a wildlife training course, be it for the love of the wildlife or for professional purposes, the experience you will get is invaluable. There is plenty to explore around South Africa once you are done with your training here and you can enjoy a holiday of a lifetime. You’ll create memories that remain with you forever of friendly staff members, professional lecturers and trainers, and a culture that is special to South Africa.
